About Us
3. Coastline’s Breeding Practices
Only the best-quality dogs are chosen for breeding, ensuring that they meet the breed standards as outlined by the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC). This includes careful consideration of genetics, physical conformation, and health history. We breed yellow, black or chocolate Labradors. Coastline Labradors does not support the breeding of dilutes, all of our Labradors are clear of the D Locus (dilute gene).
We are a hobby breeder with limited litters per year. Puppies are raised in a home environment where they are nurtured and cared for until ready for their new homes after 8 weeks of age. We will do our best to carefully match puppies with prospective puppy families as we know our dogs best but will take into consideration preferences of colour and gender.
All puppies will be registered on CKC non-breeding contracts unless otherwise agreed upon. Puppies will have their first vet checkup and vaccinations as well as receive microchips before they go home.
4. Puppy Care and Early Development
The first few weeks of a Labrador puppy's life are crucial for their development. At Coastline Labradors, puppies are raised in a clean, comfortable, and safe environment. They are given proper nutrition, vaccinations, and are veterinarian checked.
Coastline's breeding program includes early training and socialization to help the puppies become well-adjusted. This early exposure helps puppies adapt more quickly to their new homes, making them ideal companions for families, individuals, or as service/therapy dogs.
5. Lifelong Support
We do not simply send puppies off to their new homes after sale. We want to be involved with your pup ever step of the way and love to receive updates! We are happy to help troubleshoot any issues that may arise or give advice. If at any time new owners are unable to provide a home for their Labrador they will be returned to us. No dog of ours will ever end up in the shelter.
We are located in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, BC. Our focus is on producing healthy, well-tempered, Labrador Retrievers that meet the standard set out by the CKC and AKC. Labradors are one of the most popular dog breeds worldwide, known for their intelligence, friendly nature, and versatility. We wish to produce “do it all” dogs who can excel in the field, show ring, obedience ring, and come home to be a loving companion
1. The Importance of Health Testing
Breeding pairs are carefully selected based on a combination of physical traits, personality, and genetic health screening. Comprehensive health tests are essential to screen for genetic conditions commonly found in Labradors, such as hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, advanced cardiac, and eyes. We also screen for genetic conditions such as centronuclear myopathy, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), and exercise-induced collapse (EIC). The goal is to reduce the incidence of hereditary conditions in the puppies.
2. Temperament and Socialization
Labrador Retrievers are known for their gentle and friendly temperament, making them excellent family pets and companions. Early socialization is key in this process. Puppies are raised in a home environment and exposed to other animals, and handled by people and children. They will go home with experience to being handled, having their nails dremelled, bathing, beginnings of kennel and potty training as well as some basic commands; however, it is very important that you continue all of this yourself when bringing your puppy home.
